'Mares'

I was browsing through my Photo Folders, and it made me miss a lot of things from the past.

Just like these two people:

With A in Bohol!

With C in Bora!

Of course, there's Tia, Babes and Gracie as well....I just miss hanging around with you gals!

...oh! how marriage and family can change some things...but nevertheless, I know you gals will always be there when I need you...drama! =)

Kumares forever!

The Little Racer Boy

Joaquin has shown an early sign of fondness with cars. He loves driving around the village with either his lolo or lola or nong-nong or his dad. He loves playing with toy cars, at 10 months old, he already has an RC control, bigger than him.=) He has other toy cars and he is mostly fascinated with wheels. Everytime we drive around, he gushes in awe with the big trucks, buses and motor bikes that he sees.

When inside the car, he takes on the driver seat and automatically hold on to the steering wheel. When we say "Drive, drive", he would steer the wheel vigorously. When we say "Beep, beep", he would blow the horn. And when we say "Kambyo", he knows how to work on with the shift stick.

With his fondness with cars, we decided to give him a "Car-themed" birthday party.

To match the theme, I even looked for racer suits for babies. Luckily, I stumbled upon this website called BabyFashionistas. And alas, Joaquin has this suit:

Isn't it cute? At the back of the suit, there's an Italian flag, with his name below it.

Here he is during the party, he got a fever on his party that's why he looked sick...too bad for him.

But come gift opening time, he was all smiles....

Photo Wall

While checking out Apartment Therapy, I found this great idea in putting up something in the huge blank wall in our dining area..

It's a wall of different photos framed in an Acrylic Glass. It's a cheaper way, instead of buying paintings in frames. I just have to figure out how we can implement this...

Or it can be done this way:

Pictures were put together and were framed, sort of like a collage.

Nice, nice ideas!

My Birthday Boys

Oh yes! They share the same birth date, May 21. Isn't that cool? My little one was born 30 years after my hubby. We had a simple celebration at home, we also had our house blessed by a relative-priest. I prepared baked spaghetti, baked eggplants, fried chicken, macaroni salad and macaroons. The big party happens this Sunday! Can't wait for it!

Love you both...my two darlings!

Blue and Red Room

...Joaquin's room got fixed up today, just in time for his first birthday. This is just one of our gifts for you my little boy.

...the bed area..

...the toys area..

...the play area...

For now, it will only be Joaquin's play room, I can't imagine him sleeping on his own neither sleeping with his yaya on that room and not with me or his dad...No, no, no! For now, he will still be with me and his dad, I still and will always love waking up with him early in the morning. Love you Joaquin!

Huling Hirit sa Summer

In my previous post, I mentioned that I'll be gone for the weekend...Here's a rundown of the activities we had on our Anilao Trip.

Saturday
...went to Anilao, Batangas with Ejay's friends
...had a yummy brunch at Ian's place
...went straight ahead at our resort Monte Carlo
...rode the scariest boat ride ever, it was 2pm, we were supposed to go snorkling. the current was too strong, but we still rode the boat, it was my first time to get sea-sick, the ride was horrible, I was holding to one of the boat's post very tightly, too scared to let go, I've been wanting to go back to the resort but I was too hesitant to request that. Unfortunately, we were not able to snorkle, the water was too foggy, there were no fishes. We went back to the resort and the current was still very strong, going down the boat was really a nightmare for me, it was like a scene in a movie, I thought I was gonna drown, my right leg was even hit on a cemented stair going up to the resort. I was holding tightly to the boatman as he helped me get up to the shore...it was a traumatic moment.
...but still, we managed to spend some time at the resort's pool.
...tried learning 'Poi' but failed.
...had dinner at the resort's restaurant. food was so-so, it was expensive! di kami gaano nabusog.
...watched Kung Fu Hustle (tagalog version).

Sunday
...went snorkling at Dive & Trek..finally! The weather was good, the water was calm. I was a bit nervous going down the boat coz I still had a vision of what happened to us the other day. But in the end, I still enjoyed swimming with the fishes.
...upon checking out from the resort we directly went to Tagaytay.
...spent my first Mother's Day (as a mom) with the group at Josephine's Tagaytay - had our late lunch there.

...in between those, sang katutak na katatawanan at kalokohan from the group! wala talaga silang kupas! See you in Bangkok!

Off to a weekend get away.

I feel excited coz I'm heading to the beach this weekend with hubby's friends...but I'm leaving home with quite a heavy heart. Edge and I decided not to tag along little Edge as it is not ideal for our baby to go snorkling with us, I doubt he won't handle a more-than-5-minute-boat ride (he got sea-sick when we went to Potipot Island on a 5 minute boat ride.

But I'm still looking forward to our weekend get-away. I sometimes feel that I need some time apart with my baby (he has become too dependent on me) and from the household. I told my housemaids that it's my turn to have a day-off...hehe.

I'll definitely blog about my weekend get-away...for now, I need to pack things up coz I'll be leaving in 30 minutes. Good luck to me, I'm taking the bus going to Manila and meet Edge there. I haven't took a bus for the longest time. Ciao!

Bye, bye Jason Castro

...he's my crush on AI, he reminds me of Jason Mraz (another favorite artis of mine) when he sings. He may not sing as powerful as the others but he's got the looks and charm that can swoon any girl's heart..... sayang sya, he wasn't performing well during the past several weeks, I admit, kaya feeling ko , people started losing interest on him... haay, sayang talaga sya.

Organize, organize, organize!

Home organization is a skill I'm trying to practice to satisfy my OC-ness. Well, dati pa naman ako OC, i think I got it from my Mom, who's super-uber OC. I'm a tamed version of her when it comes to pagiging OC. =)

I really need to learn more on home organization...with a house like ours, it's but just right to do this. And as a woman, I think it is my responsibility that I maintain our home and keep it spic and span.

I hate clutter that is why my husband and I opted for a modern-minimalist theme for our home. I don't like too much accessories in display, they are just dust collectors. I like things hidden in cabinets, but I still want the cabinets to be organized as well. I am even thinking of documenting the contents of my cabinets, hehe... kasi habang tumatagal, dumadami laman nila. And I am starting to get confused on which items are stored on which cabinets.

Good thing, I found this article in this site, that discusses some tips on organizing. I find them very helpful and I plan to practice every item in the list, one step at a time. Here's a run down of the tips. I'm reposting them here, in case mawala yung article from that site. =)

Top 10 Organizing Tips From Chez Larsson
1) Edit, edit edit.
How many pots and pans actually fit on your stove at the same time?
How many clear vases can be filled with flowers at one time? Many if you have a cutting garden, not so many if you live in a small city apartment.
How many (if any) ugly pens you got for free do you need?
How many T-shirts do you need to save for your next paint job? My husband Martin claims many and he never picks up a paint brush. I say one and I’m the one who does all the painting around the house…
I constantly edit my belongings.

2) Let it go.
I always keep a row of grocery bags in the garage designated for stuff I want to get rid of. One goes to the local charity shop, one goes to my son’s younger cousins, one goes to recycling. When one bag is full I bring it to wherever it’s intended. I love it when all the bags are gone!

3) It’s only “stuff”.
You probably won’t regret what you’ve edited out. Considering the masses of stuff I constantly get rid of all the time I can only remember two things I’ve regretted. A few old letters I wish I’d kept and quite recently an Alvar Aalto Savoy vase which had a corner chipped off. I saw someone on AT cast a cement door stopper in one and wish I’d saved mine… But then again I have another one with a tiny chip so…

5) One in - one out
When getting something new get rid of something old. I really do. If I get a new pot for the kitchen I check the cabinet so see if an old one can go and if not I get something from another cabinet and toss that.

6) Own what you love.
Just because somebody you love gave you something doesn’t mean you have to display it or, in my case, even keep it if it’s not to your taste. I’m ruthless about this and feel it’s much better to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it more or to someplace that can use it. I can honestly say that in my house we only have things we really like. Martin doesn’t always agree with all of my things and I may not always agree on all of his but at least someone in our household loves it.

7) Buy storage in bulk.
For a streamlined, less cluttered look get lots of the same boxes in one color. I spend a bit of money here and get all the same boxes from IKEA. My favourites are white cardboard Kassett boxes for upstairs and clear plastic Flaj boxes for the storage room and garage. They are really inexpensive but when you get lots it amounts to a bit of money. I must have about 25 Kassett and 40 Flaj by now… I print the labels on my printer for neatness.

8) Corral your Clutter.
To avoid day-to-day clutter I keep containers in clutter prone places where I corral all things trailing about. There’s a green glass container by the front door where I put keys, cell phones, coins, buss passes, lost (and found) buttons, sun glasses etc. In the home office area there’s another one for desk related things like paper clips, eraser, push pins, business cards and other stuff laying about. In the kitchen there’s a tray on top of the microwave where I gather stuff found on the kitchen counters. Once in a while I empty the stuff out and put all the things in their correct places and start over.

I also keep a basket by the stairs where I put stuff which needs to go downstairs. When the basket’s is full I bring it downstairs and put away the things where they belong.

For paper clutter I’ve added vertical slots in my home office where we each have one slot and I put the papers in there. If Martin or Wille are looking for something they know where to find it.
There’s one slot for bills too. I open all mail every day as soon as I get in and keep a recycling bin by the door. All junk mail goes directly in there and the bills go in the bill slot.

9) Rotate your collections.
It’s not necessary to display all your belongings all the time. I switch things around quite a bit and enjoy the changes. A lot of our collections are in cabinets and boxes but every now and then I bring a different set of things out to enjoy.

10) Buy white.
I always buy day to day supplies in white, no print, no color, just pure white. Paper towels, toilet brush, dish towels, laundry pegs, toilet paper, candles, napkins, the list goes on. White looks clean and fresh and doesn’t draw attention to the boring day to day stuff we all need. Also with white you see when it gets dirty and needs changing

It's been awhile...

...since my last entry... wish I could have the energy to write about anything, but I've been too lazy writing stuff but I do blog-hopping.

I mostly read mommy-blogs coz in one way or the other I can relate to them... I adore these mommies who religiously write about everything and anything. And I'm inspired now to make this blog work for me...hopefully I'll be successful at it, this time around.

Wish me luck!
